Hasami Porcelain

Hasami, in Nagasaki prefecture, is one of Japan's most prosperous ceramics manufacturing towns. Porcelain began to be made in this region during the Edo period, some 400 years ago, and since then has been shipped not only to all parts of Japan, but also to Europe via the port of Nagasaki. Hasami Porcelain was born under the direction of Takuhiro Shinomoto, who used traditional skills to design a modern service with the following principles in mind:

Simplicity

Hasami plates, bowls and cups are unadorned and uncluttered. The straight lines that form them are inspired by traditional Japanese shapes. They repeat themselves, creating a delicate harmony.

Comfortable to the touch

The sensation of touching the bowl with the hands or mouth is pleasant and organic. The matte texture and unique color of the material harmonize with food and beverages.

Usability

The size of the containers follows a certain logic. Individual items such as cups, bowls and trays are designed with a common diameter, allowing them to be stacked freely and eliminating waste during storage or transportation. The tray is multifunctional and can be used as a lid for a bowl or as a large plate.

Individuality

Unlike mass-produced crockery from a single factory, Hasami crockery is hand-made. There may be slight differences in shape and size, but each piece is unique. Herein lies the inherent charm of ceramics, not to be found in uniform industrial products.
