Round mochi made by grinding glutinous rice in two stages with a special pestle, then cooling the dough, resulting in a cake with a delicate texture and rich flavor. They are distinguished by their firm texture and chewiness, making them ideal for the preparation of hot dishes such as Japanese fondue. The Japanese eat them in a variety of ways: on their own, in a broth, with soy sauce, grilled, sprinkled with matcha, kinako or kuromitsu sugar.

Smaller size than I'm used to buying (30g here vs. 50g most often); on its own that's not much. I eat it in a sweet version, reheated in water in the microwave then rolled in starch. I add anko for a daifuku minute or just a little kinako.
