Fujiya was founded in 1910 by Rinemon Fujii, who opened the first store in Yokohama. The Vendor quickly gained in popularity thanks to its quality products and constant innovation in confectionery.

Over the decades, Fujiya has established itself as one of Japan's market leaders in confectionery. In the 1950s, the introduction of the Peko-chan mascot contributed greatly to the Vendors recognition. Peko-chan became an icon not only for Fujiya, but also for Japanese pop culture.
