⋅ Japanese chopstick rest decorated with a "Chidori" motif
⋅ Pattern inspired by birds found on the Japanese coastline
⋅ Perfect for complementing your Japanese tableware
⋅ Microwave safe
⋅ Dishwasher safe
A chopstick rest decorated with a "Chidori" pattern, representing small birds often seen on the coastlines and rivers of Japan. The name "Chidori," composed of the characters for "thousand" and "bird," comes from their characteristic way of flying in groups. This symbol has been very present in Japanese art since the Heian period, particularly in classical poetry such as the Man'yoshu and Kokin Wakashu. In haikus, it is associated with winter. It was adopted as a family emblem from the Edo period onwards.
