Irie Cha En has its origins in a significant event in the life of its founder. When he was 20 years old and traveling around Japan in search of work, he was hospitalized. His room-mate offered him a cup of tea, which he found delicious. On learning that it was Yamecha, a native of his native Fukuoka, he decided to return home and take up tea production. After many years of hard work, he founded the company 35 years ago, specializing in Yamecha grown without pesticides.
