Founded in 1966 in Shizuoka, Ito En is a pioneer in Japan’s beverage industry. The company, originally known as "Frontier Seicha," distinguished itself by marketing tea in individual tea bags at a time when tea was still sold in bulk. This innovation, which made tea easier to transport, allowed the company to grow rapidly while continuing to innovate with the creation of the first canned green teas, which opened doors for it internationally.

At the same time, in the 2000s, the company launched a program to recycle waste from tea production, thereby limiting its environmental impact while promoting its growth.

In 2019, the Oi Ocha brand (founded in 1989) was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s best-selling bottled tea brand.
