These candies can be eaten as is, but they are mainly used to decorate cakes, desserts, or tables during celebrations. These sweets were introduced to Japan by the Portuguese in the 14th century, during the Muromachi period. The manufacturing method has remained the same ever since.

Founded in Kyoto in 1951, Kyoeido specializes in traditional confectionery. To perpetuate the tradition of Kyoto confectionery from the Heian era, the company emphasizes the quality of its ingredients and uses imagery that directly evokes the literary culture of that period.
