Yutaka Yamada, the founder of Yamada Kyoto Corporation, was originally a train driver who fell ill due to overwork. He then met Yukikazu Sakurazawa, who introduced him to macrobiotics, which reportedly enabled him to regain his health. To thank him, Yamada decided to start producing macrobiotic foods that were “good for people and society.” At first, he made oil, as well as wheat and buckwheat noodles, before specializing in sesame-based products.

The company’s nickname, “Henko,” meaning “determined,” symbolizes Yutaka Yamada’s determination to make high-quality products.
