Born from a collaboration between Hiromi Osaki, master blender at Nikka Whisky, and his successor Junji Iseki, The Nikka Limited is the result of blending various whiskies, including notably a Yoichi distilled in 1989 and aged in mizunara casks, a Miyagikyo distilled in 1979, also aged in mizunara oak barrels, and several Ben Nevis casks distilled in the 1980s. Slightly peaty, this collaborative blended whisky invites you to explore complex olfactory and gustatory realms radiating with maturity.
Nose: rich, complex. Both peaty and driven by a sea breeze, the aromatic palette evolves deliciously with slightly smoky notes of crème brûlée. Upon aeration, supported by a woodiness of great nobility, it becomes deliciously grainy (sesame) while being refreshed by subtle herbaceous scents (green bamboo).
Appearance: orange-copper
Palate: full-bodied, deep. Fruity (mandarin, prune), the flavor profile is also marked by tenderly bitter notes of dark chocolate. With time, it takes on particularly mouth-watering woody (sandalwood) and spicy (cinnamon, ginger) tones.
Finish: long, smooth. Returning to the forefront, a rich, oily peat coats the palate with infinite smoothness. Generous, it gradually gives way to autumnal notes of dried fruit (fig, date, walnut). Coated with a thin film of soot, the finish oscillates between flavors of gingerbread, curry, and tobacco.
