This genmaicha blended with matcha—two very popular teas in Japan—is produced under the JAS (organic) label in Uji near Kyoto, the birthplace of Japanese green tea. Genmaicha is made by blending green tea with puffed rice grains, giving it a sweet taste accompanied by nutty notes. Its origins date back to working-class Japan, where tea—rare and precious—was mixed with rice to extend its use. In contrast, matcha is a green tea powder characterized by a slightly sweet umami flavor. Traditionally prepared by whisking it with water using a special whisk, matcha adds a touch of bitterness and umami to the genmaicha, harmoniously balancing the flavors.

Instructions

Steep 1 sachet in 100 ml of boiling water for 1 minute or in cold water for 5 minutes.
