Yutaka Yamada, founder of Yamada Kyoto Corporation, was originally a train driver who fell ill due to overwork. He then met Yukikazu Sakurazawa, who introduced him to macrobiotics, which helped him regain his health. To thank him, Yamada decided to start producing macrobiotic foods that were "good for people and good for society." At first, he made oil, wheat noodles, and buckwheat noodles, before specializing in sesame-based products.

The company's nickname "Henko," which means "determined," symbolizes Yutaka Yamada's determination to manufacture high-quality products.
