Yutaka Yamada, the founder of Yamada Kyoto Corporation, was originally a train conductor who fell ill due to overwork. He then met Yukikazu Sakurazawa, who introduced him to macrobiotics, which is said to have helped him regain his health. To thank him, Yamada decided to start producing macrobiotic foods that were “good for both people and society.” At first, he produced oil, as well as wheat and buckwheat noodles, before specializing in sesame-based products.

The company's nickname, "Henko," which means "determined," symbolizes Yutaka Yamada's determination to manufacture high-quality products.
