⋅ Originating from Fukui Prefecture
⋅ A variety derived from Koshihikari rice
⋅ Slightly softer and sweeter than Koshihikari rice
⋅ Ideal for everyday use
⋅ Delicious both hot and cold

The Hana Echizen variety is a descendant of Koshihikari. It has inherited its sticky and shiny appearance. Its bouncy, tender, and slightly sticky texture makes it perfectly suited for cold preparations such as bento, onigiri, or sushi. Hana Echizen is a round rice with a mild, slightly sweet, and delicate flavor. Its name comes from the fact that it blooms faster than Koshihikari, giving it a better yield. This characteristic, along with its ability to withstand cold and its good taste, makes it a rice highly appreciated by the Japanese, especially in Fukui Prefecture, where it is commonly served in schools.

Founded in 1993 in Fukui Prefecture in response to the cold spells that year,

Hana Echizen rice is a Japanese short-grain rice variety renowned for its brilliant whiteness and uniform grains. Grown in Fukui Prefecture, this rice is prized for its soft texture and delicately sweet flavor.

Developed by the Fukui Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, Hana Echizen is one of many varieties descended from the famous Koshihikari lineage. This lineage is known for its superior quality and ability to adapt to Japan’s varied climatic conditions.

300 g of rice for 2 to 4 people: wash the rice by hand 3 times in water, then rinse it until the water runs clear. Place the rice in a saucepan, add 430 ml of water, and let it rest for 30 minutes. Cover the saucepan and heat over medium heat until boiling. Reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes without removing the lid. Turn off the heat and let it rest for another 10 minutes, still covered. Gently stir the rice before serving.

Store away from light, heat, and moisture.
