Learn more about the producer

Uo no Ya, founded in 1877 in Oda, Shimane, is a pioneer in the production and sale of natural wakame (edible seaweed). Since 2007, the company has stood out by cultivating and processing natural wakame in the Oki Islands, where wild wakame accounts for less than 1% of the national market, unlike cultivated wakame. Its philosophy is based on innovation in a little-explored sector and local involvement, with a strong commitment to job creation and revitalizing the fishing industry. Uo no Ya continues its pursuit of rarity and excellence in natural wakame, harvested each year from March to May. In 2019, the company won the Grand Prize in the 6th edition of the “Discover the Treasures of Agricultural and Fishing Villages” competition.
