Located in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, Akita prefecture offers a harsh climate, with snowy winters. Akita boasts ideal conditions for growing rice, in particular the famous Akitakomachi, a high-quality rice renowned for its soft texture and delicate taste.

The region is famous for its kiritanpo, a dish based on rice pounded into a stick shape, grilled and served with a chicken and vegetable-based broth. The richness of local cuisine is also reflected in the production of miso, soy sauces and dried seafood, which bring an unrivalled umami flavour to dishes.

Akita is also a land of breweries, particularly for the production of sake, where craftsmen brew fine beverages with meticulous care, using pure mountain water and traditional techniques handed down for centuries. Akita sake is renowned for its purity and smoothness.
