Uo no Ya, founded in 1877 in Oda, Shimane, is a pioneer in the production and sale of natural wakame (edible seaweed). Since 2007, the company has distinguished itself by cultivating and processing natural wakame in the Oki Islands, where wild wakame accounts for less than 1% of the domestic market, unlike cultivated wakame.

Their philosophy is rooted in innovation within an under-explored sector and in local engagement, with a strong commitment to job creation and the revitalization of the fishing industry. Uo no Ya continues its pursuit of rarity and excellence in the field of natural wakame, harvested annually from March to May. The company won the Grand Prize at the 6th edition of the “Discovering the Treasures of Farming and Fishing Villages” competition in 2019.
