This hojicha is produced by roashing sencha green tea over high heat. Originally, it was made to overcome the loss of freshness of tea, for the sake of economy. The roasting gives it a grilled taste reminiscent of hazelnut and chocolate, while eliminating theine, which makes it suitable for consumption at any time of the day, whether hot or cold.
