A Japanese speciality made from sweet red beans pureed and sieved to obtain a smooth, creamy texture. The taste is sweet, with a slight bitterness reminiscent of chestnuts. This paste is often used as a filling for traditional Japanese desserts such as mochi, dorayaki and taiyaki. It can also be used as an ingredient in pastry and ice-cream recipes.

A bit fad in bean flavor

It's not bad, but for those who like the taste of azuki/red kidney beans, it's a little too light in flavor. It's not the worst azuki purée I've tasted. At least it's made with azuki of Japanese origin, not Chinese.
