A unique tea is created by sprinkling matcha over genmaicha, giving this infusion a distinctive emerald color. Genmaicha and matcha are very popular choices in Japan. Genmaicha is made by blending green tea with puffed rice grains, giving it a sweet, nutty taste. Its origins go back to the Japanese working class, where tea, rare and precious, was cut with rice to consume as little as possible. Matcha is a green tea powder with an umami and slightly sweet taste. Traditionally prepared by whisking with water using a special whisk, matcha adds bitterness and umami to genmaicha, balancing its flavors.
