⋅ Fine, delicate fragrance and umami between sencha and matcha
⋅ Shade-grown tea bushes to develop umami
⋅ Rich in theine
⋅ Alluminium box to preserve freshness
A premium tea renowned for its fine, delicate taste. Its origins date back to the Edo era, in 1835 to be precise. It is obtained by shading the tea bushes for three weeks before harvesting. By blocking out almost all the light, they become richer in theine, lose tannin and take on their characteristic dark color. Its taste, both rich and delicate, is characterized by umami and subtly sweet vegetal notes. Thanks to its high theine content, it's perfect for boosting energy after lunch. It can be enjoyed both hot and cold, accompanied by light pastries or fruit to create interesting taste harmonies. Its cultivation accounts for less than 1% of Japan's total green tea production. Its rarity, the constraints necessary for its cultivation and the fact that it was once highly prized by the nobility explain why it is so highly esteemed by the Japanese.
