Gyokuro is considered one of the best Japanese green teas. It is made from the tender leaves of the tea tree, which are shaded for several weeks before the harvest. The leaves are then steamed, dried and then transformed into green tea.

The origins of Ippodo dates back more than three centuries, in 1717, when Rihei Watanabe opened a store called Omiya to sell tea and ceramics. In 1846, the store was renamed Ippodo, which means "preserving". The name comes from Prince Yamashina, who appreciated Ippodo tea and wanted the store to preserve a tradition: to provide high quality tea. IPPODO continues to adapt to the evolution of times, but has remained faithful to high quality Japanese tea since then.
