A true work of art, The Nikka Nine Decades is the result of blending 50 whiskies. Writing, note after note, the score of an epic that began in 1934, this anniversary cuvée is composed of whisky taken from the oldest cask preserved by Nikka, a Yoichi distilled in 1945, several vintages of the same single malt dating from the 1950s to 2020, Miyagikyo from the 1960s to 2020, and Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt from the Nishinomiya and Miyagikyo distilleries, as well as other more recent grain whiskies from Moji and Satsuma Tsukasa. Echoing the historical links between Nikka Whisky and Scotland, the blend also includes Ben Nevis from the 1960s to 2020. Resplendent with mature richness yet remarkably youthful in spirit, its aromatic and flavor palette is punctuated with peaty, smoky, apricot, and spicy notes that brilliantly embody the Nikka Whisky style.
Nose: The sweetness of apple pie and raisins, accompanied by toasted notes from barrel aging, lead to a soft smoke and woody aromas. The whole gives the impression of being in the cellar where the whisky has peacefully rested.
Appearance: Topaz.
Palate: Mellow oak, with great depth, provides the base for spicy notes of cinnamon, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate. The subtle bitterness of peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup. This warm profile gives the sensation of sitting in front of a roaring fire.
Finish: The peat is accompanied by sweet and acidic notes, introducing a pleasant bitterness on a very long finish.
