More details on this product
Introduced from China in the 8th century, during the Nara period, the chrysanthemum was first used for its medicinal and ornamental virtues. The flower quickly established itself as a symbol of longevity and nobility, to the point of becoming the official emblem of the Japanese imperial family. Chrysanthemums are also ritual flowers, given as offerings to ancestors and used to celebrate weddings.
Chrysanthemums also have their own festival, "Choyo no Sekku", celebrated on September 9. In the past, people used to drink sake infused with chrysanthemum petals to ward off evil spirits.
