This unique tea is obtained by sprinkling matcha over genmaicha, giving a unique emerald infusion color. Genmaicha and matcha are among the most popular green teas in Japan. Genmaicha is made by blending green tea with puffed rice grains, giving it a naturally sweet, nutty taste. It has its origins in the Japanese working class, where tea, which was rare and precious, was cut with rice to consume as little as possible. Matcha is a green tea powder with an umami and slightly sweet taste. It is traditionally prepared by mixing it with water using a dedicated whisk. It adds a slight bitterness to genmaicha, and umami to balance out the flavours.
