This hojicha is made by double-roasting green tea harvested in Uji, then ground to a powder. This roasting method gives it an intense, coffee-like taste. This powder can be used in the same way as matcha, and is a perfect substitute for cocoa and coffee. It adds a touch of originality to pastry classics such as cookies, pound cake, éclairs, tiramisu, brownies or mousse. It's also ideal for preparing drinks with cow's milk or vegetable milk. In addition to its distinctive taste, the roasting process removes theine from hojicha, so it can be enjoyed at any time of day, hot or cold.
