Once used by the Japanese as a remedy for illness, azuki beans are a healthy food, low in fat but rich in fiber and minerals, which means they have a beneficial effect on the body. It helps prevent hypertension, anaemia and stroke, while helping to reduce cholesterol and relieve stomach aches. This superfood is combined with black rice, a food that has gained in popularity in Japan in recent years thanks to its antioxidant properties and fiber, making it ideal for people on a low-sugar diet.
Maeda, founded in 1924 and located in Uwajima in the Ehime region, specializes in the manufacture of cereal-based food products, particularly barley and rice. For a sekihan with glutinous rice: Rinse your glutinous rice until the water runs clear. Add the mixture to a container with 360cc of water and leave to stand for 1 hour. Add your glutinous rice to the container, stir and cook.
For sekihan rice with white rice: Rinse your white rice. Add the rice mixture and 400cc of water. Leave to stand for 1 hour, mix well and cook.
Store away from light, heat and moisture.
