Shiso Smash Recipe

A fresh and elegant Japanese cocktail, where shiso meets gin and sake for a subtle and aromatic blend. Ideal for a festive aperitif or a moment to share. Kampai!

Ingredients

  • 45 ml Japanese gin
  • 15 ml sake
  • 10 ml shiso syrup (or sugar simple syrup)
  • 15 ml yuzu juice (or lemon juice)
  • 5 shiso leaves (plus one for garnish)
  • Ice cubes
  • Soda (optional)

Directions

  1. Wash the shiso leaves and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Place the shiso leaves in a shaker and add the shiso syrup. Use a pestle to gently crush the shiso leaves to release their aromas. Add the gin, sake, yuzu juice and a few ice cubes to the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds to blend the flavours and chill the cocktail.
  4. Strain the mixture through a cocktail strainer into a cocktail glass filled with fresh ice cubes. If you prefer a lighter cocktail, you can add a little soda to make it longer.
  5. Decorate your cocktail with an extra shiso leaf.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy this refreshing cocktail with its unique herbaceous notes of shiso.
