Ingredients
- 150 g plain cooked rice
- 100 g firm tofu, cubed
- 3 tablespoons Mabo sauce
- 1 spring onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- A pinch of shichimi (Japanese chili pepper)
Directions
- Cut the tofu into 2 cm cubes. Drain on paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Heat a little oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the cubed tofu and sauté gently for a few minutes, until lightly browned on all sides.
- Pour the Mabo sauce into the pan with the golden tofu. Simmer over a low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the tofu to soak up the sauce.
- Place the hot plain rice in bowls. Top with tofu in Mabo sauce.
- Cut the spring onions into thin slices and sprinkle over the tofu. Sprinkle the dish with sesame seeds and add a pinch of shichimi for a little spice. Serve hot.
