Recipe notes
Tips :
You can personalize the coating by adding toasted sesame seeds, pistachio slivers or even a little sea salt for a sweet-salty touch.
Truffles keep well in the fridge in an airtight container for around 5 to 7 days, making them perfect for preparing a gourmet gift in advance.
Why is Valentine's Day so important in Japan?
Although Valentine's Day originated in the West, its celebration was widely adopted in Japan in the 1950s, influenced by American practices and other Western cultures. Over the years, it has evolved into a deeply rooted tradition, but also adapted to the Japanese context.
In Japan, Valentine's Day is mainly associated with the exchange of chocolates. Women give chocolates to colleagues, friends and, above all, to their romantic partners. There are even different kinds of chocolates: "giri-choco" (courtesy chocolates for colleagues or friends) and "honmei-choco " (chocolates for a romantic partner).
Unlike Western practices, where couples often exchange gifts and cards, Valentine's Day in Japan is primarily a way for women to express their feelings, especially towards men. It's an opportunity to show attention, but also to strengthen bonds in personal and professional relationships.
Valentine's Day in Japan is followed by another celebration called White Day, which takes place on March 14. On this day, men who have received chocolates must offer gifts in return, often more expensive ones, such as sweets, flowers or accessories. This double exchange creates a unique dynamic in relationships.
