Matcha French toast revisits the classic French dessert with a Japanese twist. Lightly flavored with matcha green tea, it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Ingredients
- 4 slices of brioche
- 2 eggs
- 150 ml milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Cooking butter
- Powdered sugar and maple syrup for serving
Instructions
Prepare the French toast mixture
In a bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, sugar, matcha, and vanilla until you get a smooth mixture.
Soak the brioche
Dip each slice of brioche into the mixture, allowing it to soak in well on both sides.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet with a little butter.
- Toast the brioche slices over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until they are slightly crispy and golden brown.
Serve:
Serve warm, sprinkled with powdered sugar and accompanied by maple syrup or fresh fruit.
Recipe notes
For an even more intense flavor, add ½ teaspoon of additional matcha to the mixture.
You can substitute almond or soy milk for a plant-based version.
Slightly stale brioche works best because it absorbs the mixture better without falling apart.
